The Unique Side of Paramaribo Zoo That Visitors Must Know

By | January 5, 2022

Paramaribo Zoo may not be the best zoo in the world, but it is surely one of the places people should visit when they visit Suriname. This is the only zoo in this country, so people won’t have a hard time searching for it. So, what is so unique about this zoo that makes it interesting to visit?

1. Not Only a Zoo

One of the special things about the Paramaribo Zoo is that it is not only a zoo that shows off its animals. Other than that, this zoo also has an important task in protecting and guarding animals against the unique wildlife of Suriname.

What people don’t know is that many animals inside this zoo were found in horrible places before. Some were kept as horrible pets by their owner, while others were found injured on the road. Luckily, these animals were then found and now professionally cared for by the zoo.

2. Local & Unique Animals

When coming to this zoo, don’t expect to see giraffes, elephants, or normal animals that you often see in other places. Because rather than taking care of those kinds of animals, the zoo focuses on local animals such as kwatta monkeys and spider monkeys too.

They show the animals differently too. In this zoo, visitors can see kwatta monkeys divided into two different islands which gives space for them to play around. The island is also unique, making it interesting to see.

3. Waterpark

After a round trip around the zoo, people can cool their bodies off by playing and swimming in the waterpark. However, because the pool is not too big, people must make a reservation first. Please note the reservation number for the waterpark and zoo is different, so make sure to call the right number.

4. Operational Hours

The zoo is open every day from Sunday to Monday from 09:00 – 18:00. The operational hours are the same throughout the week, so no need to worry about coming at the wrong time. However, the hours only change if there is a different regulation from the government.

5. Pricelist

To enter the zoo, adults must pay around SRD 50, whereas kids above 13 are SRD 35. If you are coming with small kids that are under 3 years old, then they are still free of charge. Those planning to come in a group of more than 20 people, should better call the customer service because the price is cheaper for group visiting.

Remember that if you want to visit the waterpark, there is an additional fee that you must pay. However, you must also enter the zoo first before entering the waterpark. Don’t forget to also make a reservation before coming to the waterpark.

So, if you are looking for a place that you can go with your kids, then come to Paramaribo Zoo. In this zoo, kids can see many kinds of unique animals, learn about the wildlife of Suriname, and play in the pool. The price to enter the zoo is also very reasonable, so you and your families can have fun at the zoo!
